Frequently Asked Questions
How are bookings made?
Our booking schedule operates on a trimester (4 month) basis. Weekends and public holidays are allocated through Sydney BoatShare’s ballot system, to ensure these popular days are shared appropriately amongst syndicate owners.
Approximately two weeks before each trimester, owners can reserve weekdays and change weekend bookings using the secure Owner Login page on our website or over the phone. Provided your boat is available, you can make a booking until 9am on the day you wish to use your vessel.
Can I cancel my booked day if the weather is bad?
Yes. You change or cancel your booking online before 5pm the previous day, without losing any of your allocated days. Special or extenuating circumstances will always be considered by Sydney Boat Share.
Can I use my boat overnight?
Yes. We encourage owners to take advantage of the luxurious amenities onboard their boat and provide linen and guest berthing where possible. Boats can be booked where possible for entire weekends and holiday periods of up to seven days, and there’s no additional charge for overnight stays.
Please note that drivers must have successfully completed our Night-time Induction Tuition before taking their boat out overnight.
What is Standby-Use?
If a vessel is not booked after 9am on any given day, owners can use the boat on a standby basis for a nominal fee. Sydney BoatShare offers unlimited standby days, which are not deducted from your allocated allowance.
To take advantage of standby days, simply call the skipper on duty at your marina or check our internet reservation system for availability.
When and how can the boat be sold?
At the conclusion of the boat syndicate operating period (usually just under 3 years), the boat will be removed from our booking system, prepared for sale and put on the open market.
Once the syndicate operating period finishes, owners cannot use the vessel. However, our owners have first right of refusal and may purchase the vessel themselves once an appropriate third party offer has been received. Sydney Boat Share participates with 15% of the net proceeds from the sale.

HOW ARE DAYS ALLOCATED?
Each owner may book 1/3 of their total allocated yearly days in each trimester = booking block of four months. The booking trimesters are:
Spring into Summer
|
| 1st of October – 31st of January |
Summer into Autumn
|
| 1st of February – 31st of May |
Winter
|
| 1st of June – 31st of September |
Example: Owners with a 10% share = 33 days booked access per year can book and use 11 days in each of these trimesters. This includes a 10% share of weekends and public holidays combined. Allocated days must be used in each trimester and cannot be carried over or brought forward into other trimesters.
